KL Engineering was hired to design and oversee construction for the Mendota County Park Redevelopment project. Our team collaborated with various stakeholders to implement improvements identified in the park’s master plan.
The project replaced an aging park shelter with a modern prefabricated unit and reconfigured the parking layout to improve circulation and access to amenities. KL also created internal pathways featuring benches and fitness nodes along the trail, establishing new connections between the lakefront park and neighboring communities.
Our team replaced the boat launch and added an ADA-compliant trailer loading and unloading area. KL also created an ADA-accessible campsite in the campground and extended sanitary sewer service to the host site. Pedestrian bridges were designed over park drainage ditches to allow easy access for both pedestrians and maintenance equipment during wet weather. Additional upgrades included new parking lot lighting and electrical service to the shelter building.
Managing stormwater was a challenge due to flat grades and high groundwater. KL’s design improved runoff water quality, resolved drainage concerns for the park and surrounding properties, and met the County’s stormwater goals.
KL partnered with Damon Farber to enhance and expand the playground areas, incorporating nature-based and creative play elements with improved accessibility.
