Park Improvements to Benefit Dogs & Humans Alike

KL Engineering worked in collaboration with Dane County to develop site improvements for the Anderson Farm County Park Dog Park in Oregon, Wisconsin. The project transformed an existing agricultural site into a regional recreational destination featuring large dog park areas, parking facilities, paved and stone trails, stormwater management systems, and public electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. The project included site planning, grading, utility coordination, and construction support services.

EV charging stations were integrated into the park’s parking facilities to provide visitors with convenient access to charging while enjoying the park amenities. KL Engineering coordinated the electrical infrastructure needed to support the charging equipment, including utility service considerations, equipment placement, parking layout integration, and construction coordination. By incorporating EV charging into a public recreational facility, the project expanded charging accessibility in Dane County while supporting the County’s long-term sustainability and transportation initiatives.

The stormwater plan controlled off-site runoff from the added impervious areas to this existing agriculture site and treated the runoff before leaving the site. Through this process, a Dane County Stormwater Management Permit and WDNR WRAPP Permit were developed, using unique erosion control measures throughout the construction staging process to gain approval. To both convey and treat the stormwater on site, a combination of devices were used including bioretention basin, detention basin, filter strips, diversion berms, and ditching. The system of gravel surface trails designed on the site were exempt from water quality treatment as they were considered disconnected impervious areas with little impact to the parcel.
