This week is Engineers Week, also known as EWeek! DiscoverE’s EWeek is a longstanding tradition that is dedicated to increasing interest in various engineering fields, including civil engineering. This year’s theme is “Design Your Future.” KL has been trusted to design and oversee many projects that impact the future of our community.
Jon Blomquist has been working for KL for 29 years and has vast experience in the planning, design, and construction of transportation projects. When asked about how he keeps the future in mind in his work, he had a lot to say. “To consider the future for roadway projects, we analyze traffic projections to anticipate future needs, ensuring expansions occur only when necessary,” he said. “We design pavements to withstand projected traffic loads and enhance multimodal accessibility, accommodating pedestrians, cyclists, and public transit users.”

KL’s work is community focused, as everyone is impacted by the work we do on roads, bridges, and trails. In recent years, many people have benefited from the integration of the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) in construction. For example, systems are now in place on the interstate during construction notifying you when there is a traffic slowdown ahead, allowing time to potentially take an alternate route, or simply be more alert to changing conditions.
“Transportation systems are increasingly integrating Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) to provide real-time information to roadway users, improving safety, efficiency, and traffic management.” Weight in Motion systems implements ITS technology to notify overweigh trucks that they will need to pull off at the weigh station where they are weighed, and brakes and tires can be inspected to ensure they are safe to continue down the road.
Eweek and every week, our engineers are committed to finding the best ways to DesignYourFuture!
