Fish Hatchery Road serves as the gateway into the heart of Fitchburg, WI’s business community. The project redesigned the corridor’s segment south of the Beltline (USH 12/14) and included eight existing intersections and created two new additional intersections. These improvements led to better traffic flow, updated multi-use accommodations, and helped spur development along the corridor. The KL construction team oversaw the reconstruction of this corridor, which included 1.5 miles of mainline, six lanes wide at an initial let cost of over $20 million.
Major operations included new water and sanitary facilities, reconstruction of the storm sewer system, grading, base aggregate, concrete and asphaltic pavement, curb and gutter, staged traffic control, CIP retaining walls, modular block retaining walls, OH sign structures, signing and marking, decorative lighting, fiber interconnect, traffic signals, hard and soft-streetscaping elements, and a variety of Metro Transit components.
