When team members at KL Engineering get to work together, amazing things happen. It isn’t often that we have an opportunity that involves folks from almost every discipline we have at our disposal, but the Charge Up Dane County Initiative from the Dane County Office of Energy & Climate Change is a very special situation.
According to KL’s Chris Halverson, who is a leader on the initiative, “In my almost 30 year career, this is the most all hands on deck effort I have been part of.”
The initiative includes multiple projects that get Level 2 EV Chargers in underserved, high density urban and rural areas to make charging more accessible for folks who have made the switch to electric and plugin hybrid vehicles. The team is gearing up to complete final designs for 70 sites or more that will benefit from the effort. Designing these projects requires assistance from our surveyors, civil engineers, and electrical engineers—and some help from marketing to get the word out. In the end, KL will complete construction oversight on the ongoing EV charging projects, which are projected to begin in early 2027.
“It is really interesting to me that the ‘EV’ part of this project has been such a small part of the whole experience. Communicating with the County, the applicants who will benefit from the EV chargers being installed, and getting our KL team members involved has been much more important to the process,” Chris shared.
#EarthMonth and every month, KL is happy to take on new opportunities to make our world a greener place, and the Charge Up Dane County initiative is a great example of this.
