Great communication through design and construction doesn’t just happen, it requires intentionality. An open line of proactive communication that was maintained throughout the Wisconsin Department of Transportation WIS 26 Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) project in the City of Janesville and ultimately helped this complex project stay on track.
KL Engineering’s Project Manager, Brad Halvensleben reflects, “It was a great opportunity to work on this project and the innovative design of a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI). It was inspiring seeing this large design from start to finish and how all of the improvements along the way enhanced all aspects of the corridor. We had some major hurdles to overcome, but the resiliency of the WisDOT I-39 Corridor Management Team (CMT) and design team, which included KL Engineering, raSmith, and Westbrook, kept the project running smoothly without missing any project milestones. It was impressive teamwork!”

We are grateful to everyone who contributed to the creation of this beautiful masterpiece that was honored with four awards: a 2023 WisDOT Excellence in Highway Design Award, the ASCE Wisconsin Section 2023 Engineering Achievement Award, the ACEC Wisconsin 2024 Engineering Excellence “Best of State” Award, and a 2024 ACEC National Recognition Award.
