KL Engineering completed the final design and construction oversight of the reconstruction of the Wisconsin State Patrol Academy parking lot at Fort McCoy. Project work included pulverizing and reconstructing approximately 86,000 SF of existing deteriorated asphalt pavement that has reached the end of its service life.
Geotechnical information that was obtained from borings was used to assess the existing pavement and base thicknesses. Several different pavement options were priced. The option selected involved pulverization, which provided the benefit of strengthening the base material, while being cost effective. It also minimized haul off of material.
The plans and contract documents included construction staging requirements to minimize impacts to users of the facility. Coordination of the construction schedule was required to complete the project prior to fall training sessions that are held at the facility. The parking facility is typically 100% utilized.
In addition, there was a need to provide more parking capacity and improve truck turning at the loading dock. This was accomplished by filling in 2 gaps in existing pavement. The new pavement area totaled approximately 3,600 SF and 13 new parking stalls were provided as a result of the project.
Construction Cost: $350,000
