Lower Yahara River Trail Phase 2 & Fish Camp County Park Project Update

Photo collage of scenes from the project as described in the post - graded trail, newly poured ramp to lake, pedestrian bridge installed, and supports for the new boardwalk that is coming soon.

KL Engineering provided the design and construction oversight of the Lower Yahara River Trail Phase 2 and Fish Camp County Park improvements. Construction began in late 2023, completing all the rough grading for the trail, installing culverts, and grading ditches for the spring thaw. Crews installed over 450 helical piles to support the new boardwalk, mounted at an elevated level to protect the wetlands and wildlife area. A few weeks ago, the pedestrian bridge was installed over Door Creek to connect Fish Camp County Park to Lake Kegonsa State Park. In the coming weeks, the boardwalk will really begin to take shape as the contractor, Janke General Contractors, begins installing the superstructure.

For the Fish Camp County Park improvements, the contactor was able to install the new kayak ramp, weed harvester ramp, and substructure of the new accessible fishing pier. The accessible kayak launch is scheduled to be installed in the coming weeks along with completing the superstructure of the fishing pier. Come springtime the parking lot will be milled and overlayed along with some newly constructed areas as part of both projects. Additionally, the path will be fine graded and paved at this time.

Here is a really great video Dane County Parks put together about the project, where you can watch the bridge be installed: https://youtu.be/ZTCIe4yTwkA
