At KL Engineering, we believe great infrastructure starts with great people. We’re looking for an Infrastructure Field Specialist to join our growing team and support work that makes a real impact on the communities we serve. This role offers a unique blend of field work, survey operations, construction observation, and in-office technical support, with opportunities to grow and diversify your skillset over time. You will support our Infrastructure Services, Design Support Services, and Construction Services teams, contributing to public and private infrastructure projects across the region — all while helping deliver [A] Better Experience for our clients and communities.

What You'll Do:

Field Survey & Mapping

  • Conduct control, topographic, boundary, utility, and construction staking surveys using modern equipment including GNSS, robotic total stations, digital levels, data collectors, and conventional tools
  • Operate UAS (drone) technology to collect aerial data and maintain FAA Part 107 certification
  • Perform boundary, property, utility, and supplemental surveys and gather field data essential to project design and mapping needs
  • Locate existing monuments, survey points, and record precise measurements in varying terrain and weather conditions
  • Maintain survey equipment, vehicles, and field supplies while following KL safety standards and procedures

Construction Oversight & Support

  • Perform construction observation, documentation, and field measurements to verify contractor compliance with plans, specifications, and applicable standards
  • Prepare field reports, daily diaries, quantity tracking, and supporting documentation
  • Assist construction teams with staking, as-built verification, and problem resolution during construction phases

Data Processing, Design Support & Reporting

  • Download, process, and analyze survey data using Trimble Business Center (TBC) and other survey / CAD software
  • Prepare survey exhibits, maps, plats, and technical documents to support engineering design and project deliverables
  • Support project engineers with drafting, modeling, and design tasks consistent with KL Engineering standards
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and technicians to coordinate field activities, review data, and verify accuracy
  • Participate in project meetings, field reviews, and occasional client interactions

What We're Looking For:

  • Ideal candidates are those invested in KL Engineering’s growth and motivated by our expanding work in parks, trails and recreation, waterfront facilities, and wetland area projects. Opportunities for growth into management and leadership roles are supported through mentoring and continued education.
  • Occasional travel, including short multi‑day trips (up to five nights), to partner with KL staff on field surveying and project site work. These trips offer a great opportunity to build relationships, gain hands‑on experience in diverse environments, and play an active role in bringing our projects to life.
  • Interest or experience in surveying, construction oversight, environmental field work, or civil engineering support
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varied field conditions and transition into office-based technical tasks
  • Ability to operate survey instruments and data processing software with strong precision and attention to detail
  • Collaborative team player with effective communication skills
  • Strong organizational habits and a proactive approach to task completion
  • Valid driver’s license required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with CAD software (such as AutoCAD or Civil 3D) and survey data software and rendering and visualization software
  • Academic background in surveying, geomatics, civil engineering technology, or related field
  • Familiarity with relevant survey practices, mapping principles, and regulatory standards
  • Interest in completing a four-year land surveying curriculum from an accredited institution to become a Professional Land Surveyor
  • Previous experience with bathymetric survey
  • Interest or Previous experience with data collection and integration into Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
  • Traffic Count data collection and reporting
  • Interest or Previous experience performing wetland delineations
