KL Compost Impact Update – March 2024

Graphic showing the stats that were mentioned in the post with an apple core, tree sapling, car, and gas pump to help illustrate and the KL and Green Box logos.

KL has been using Green Box composting services in our Madison office for the past year. During that time, we have diverted 636 pounds of food waste from the landfill! From a greenhouse gas equivalency standpoint, our composting efforts are equivalent to 4.2 urban tree seedlings grown for 10 years. These composting efforts are also equivalent to not driving 630 miles, offsetting 28 gallons of gas!

According to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), our landfills consist of 20.5% food waste. Removing food scraps from our waste stream is a great way to positively impact the environment and is one of the many sustainability efforts KL employs to put this core value into practice. For more information, visit the City of Madison, WI’s food scrap webpage: https://www.cityofmadison.com/streets/food-scraps/

Join us in reducing methane gas produced by rotting food waste in landfills!
