This project consisted of milling and resurfacing of 17 miles of HMA pavement along STH 64 in Marinette County. Within the project limits were 39 intersections and 303 driveways. In addition to paving, widening shoulders, and adding rumble strips, the project included 17 cross culvert replacements, guardrail replacement and grading, storm sewer, box culvert endwall and floor reconstruction, and concrete curb and gutter. Excellent coordination between key stakeholders allowed the project to be completed on an accelerated basis, ahead of schedule and under budget. The structurally sound and aesthetically pleasing final product provides the traveling public with a safer, smoother and more comfortable ride, while extending the life of the pavement structure.
Brett Vissers from KL Engineering was the Project Leader, with support from Kevin Konyn, Garrett Ruckdashel, Kayla Roffers, and Ryan Umentum to provide the construction oversight for this project, which was a finalist for the 2023 WisDOT Outstanding Highway Construction Award for the Asphalt Paving category. Congratulations to the contractor (Northeast Asphalt), WisDOT Northeast Region (Kurt Vogel and Brian Edwards), and the KL crew for supporting this high-quality project!
