IH 94 Reconstruction Project

KL’s Jim Dzienkowski led construction oversight for the $60 million I-94 reconstruction project in Dunn and St. Croix Counties. This complex project overcame numerous challenges, including constructing lanes with a 3:1 traffic split through 4 stages on the Knapp Hill portion of the project. Over the course of several years, the concrete on this rural highway was replaced, while maintaining 4 lanes of traffic, which required 18 miles of temporary pavement and 3 temporary structures. The final product included 16 miles of roadway reconstruction, 2 interchanges, 6 new bridges, and 2 sign structures. The project was a 2021 WisDOT Outstanding Highway Construction Award Finalist in the Large Contract category, nominated by WisDOT NW Region.
