KL Engineering is seeking a Technical Writer / Proposal Specialist to support proposal development and technical communication across the firm. This role helps teams communicate clearly with clients, assemble high-quality proposals, and maintain consistent messaging across marketing materials.

We welcome candidates from a wide range of experience levels and backgrounds. Whether you are earlier in your career or bring significant writing, communications, or proposal experience, we are interested in individuals who are thoughtful communicators, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a collaborative technical environment.

What You'll Do:

Write & Refine: Develop and edit proposal content, technical narratives, and marketing materials tailored to specific audiences.
Translate & Clarify: Work with engineers and technical staff to convert complex concepts into clear, client-focused messaging.
Coordinate & Organize: Track deliverables, manage deadlines, and coordinate inputs from multiple contributors.
Assemble & Produce: Format and assemble proposal documents using established templates and brand standards.
Review & Perfect: Ensure formatting, grammar, and compliance requirements are met before submission.
Follow & Improve Process: Support established workflows while identifying opportunities to improve templates and processes.
Communicate Professionally: Collaborate confidently with technical staff and remain steady under deadline pressure.

What We're Looking For:

Skills

Experience with Adobe InDesign is strongly preferred
Strong writing, grammar, and editing abilities
Excellent organization and time management
Ability to adjust tone for different audiences

Mindset

Curious and detail-oriented
Comfortable asking thoughtful questions
Able to work effectively under deadline pressure

Experience

Experience levels may vary. Backgrounds in writing, communications, proposal coordination, marketing, journalism, or technical fields may translate well to this role.

Preferred (But Not Required)

Experience in Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) environments
Familiarity with or openness to using AI-supported tools in proposal workflows, including tools such as Joist AI
