On this World Mental Health Day, we reaffirm our commitment to fostering a culture of care and compassion for our employees. When someone is struggling with their mental health, asking for help can feel impossible. Folks might feel defeated, like they wouldn’t be heard. An inner battle like this can impact someone in their personal and work life.

KL Engineering considers our team members to be a family. When stressors become overwhelming, we encourage anyone who is struggling to ask for help.

KL has Employee Assistance Programs in place, which provide confidential support in things ranging from emotional wellness to coping with substance abuse and grief. We also live up to our values as a company by preparing our team if someone admits that they are having a hard time or even a mental health crisis.

Shannon Jacobs is one of our trained Mental Health First Aid staff members, a program presented by the National Council for Mental Wellbeing. This organization has made it their mission to teach its trainees how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. The training gives skills to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis.

“One of the most important lessons I learned from Mental Health First Aid training is that if someone comes to you saying they need help or are struggling, they truly mean it,” Shannon shared about her experience. “It takes a lot of courage for someone to reach out, and it’s crucial to acknowledge and support them.”
