Emerging Developments

With creative financing, the $28 million North Fish Hatchery Road (NFHR) project was built without raising levy limits. The City of Fitchburg accessed a Tax Incremental District (TID) to partially fund the project. The project created two new streets and intersections at Traceway Drive (top photo) and Ochalla Drive. Four new developments came to the area, like Terrace Point (bottom left photo) with several more on the way. Close collaboration allowed Park Bank (bottom right photo) to completely rebuild during the roadway construction. Meanwhile, a temporary retaining wall was built to allow businesses in the Fitchburg Ridge Shopping Center to remain open throughout construction. This level of collaboration and innovation is one of the many reasons this project won a 2022 ASCE Wisconsin Engineering Achievement Award.

Watching the North Fish Hatchery Road corridor transform into the Gateway to Fitchburg has been amazing.  It took the dedication of Fitchburg staff and the support of the community to bring this project to fruition.  Being part of the talented team that worked on this project was an incredible opportunity and I look forward to seeing the continued revitalization of this corridor.  ~Samantha Herheim, PE | Assistant Project Manager on NFHR
