Creative Resource Management

One of the cool things about the North Fish Hatchery Road project was the way materials were recycled. The existing concrete pavement was pulverized and reused as the base course for the new road, helping save the community of Fitchburg $700,000! All salvageable traffic equipment was saved to be repurposed on other projects. Standard signal equipment was painted as a way to dress up the corridor. By utilizing Portable Changeable Message Signs (PCMS) owned by the City to alert drivers to upcoming traffic changes, another $10,000 was saved. This creative resource management is one of the many reasons this project received the 2022 APWA Wisconsin Project of the Year Award.
