Project Title
Type – Stages

KL provided the Project Construction Leader, Materials Engineer, and inspection support staff for the segment of Fish Hatchery Road being reconstructed and located south of the Beltline (USH 12/18) Interchange. Specific major work items include new water and sanitary utility facilities, reconstruction of the storm sewer system, grading, base aggregate, concrete pavement, asphaltic pavement, curb and gutter, staged traffic control, CIP retaining walls, modular block retaining walls, OH sign structures, signing and marking, lighting, fiber interconnect, and traffic signals. The segment included reconstructing 3 existing intersections and creating two new intersections.
A unique consideration to the Fish Hatchery Road project included coordinating non Trans-220 utilities. Unlike a WisDOT project, the utilities were relocated after boots were on the ground. Another challenging aspect centered around fostering efficient interagency coordination between WisDOT, City of Madison, Town of Madison, Fitchburg, Dane County and project staff concerning procured lighting and traffic component coordination, public utilities operations and notifying impacted stakeholders. The project also incorporated hard and soft streetscaping elements along with enhanced bike and pedestrian accommodations helping improve accessibility.
