Pewaukee to Brookfield Shared Use Trail
Parks, Trails & Recreation – Design & Construction
KL Engineering is currently working with Waukesha County and WisDOT in design & construction of this 3.5-mile trail connecting the City of Pewaukee to the City of Brookfield.
The trail is largely located within a County-owned abandoned rail corridor, adjacent to residential properties and wetlands. The majority of the trail will be centered on an existing 66-foot wide abandoned rail corridor and involves the removal of the invasive tree growth, rails, and ties. The design incorporates a 10-foot wide trail, two 14-foot wide railroad bridge rehabilitations, residential screening, roadway crossings with ADA updates, signage, and the development of trailheads in Pewaukee and Brookfield.
Public involvement played a key role in the design of the facility with significant input from adjacent residents throughout the project. With both the Fox River and wetlands surrounding the corridor, permitting incorporated Federal, State, and local permits for grading, stormwater, wetlands, and floodplains.
