Qualified candidates should possess a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. It is important to have professional licensure (PE) or interest and ability to earn such licensure. KL Engineering is an award-winning Wisconsin based consulting engineering firm, located in Madison, Wisconsin with offices in Menomonie, Green Bay, and Germantown. We provide our clients with a full range of services that include transportation engineering, planning and design; structural engineering, traffic engineering, electrical design, site design, parks/trails/recreation design, municipal and utility design, environmental studies; surveying/GIS; construction management; and more. The qualified candidate will work out of our Madison office with civil engineers, surveyors, landscape architects, planners, and construction engineers on challenging land development projects.  This person will be part of the team that designs and oversees a wide range of public and private site development and municipal projects as well as assist on transportation engineering projects. Responsibility emphasis will be determined based on the business needs and candidate’s expertise. The qualified candidate will be working primarily on project design. Construction observation, coordination and administration will be performed as needed on these projects.

Minimum Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate/perform Civil 3D work for design modeling and plan production.
  • Prepare project plans, specifications, and miscellaneous quantities.
  • Prepare project reports.

Expanded Responsibilities, based on experience:

  • Assess environmental impacts including stormwater management and assist with the preparation of environmental reports, agency coordination, and permitting.
  • Assist as a client liaison for the project.
  • Assist with the coordination of sub-consultant activities.
  • Assist in preparing stormwater management plans and calculations.
  • Assist in the oversight of the construction observation and administration including processing contractor submittals, RFIs, and pay requests.

Required Qualifications

  • Successful candidates will have a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and have 3-8 years of experience.
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) or the ability to obtain a PE in Wisconsin (licensure in surrounding areas a plus).
  • Familiarity with design/drafting software such as AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
  • Proficiency with the MS Office suite software.
  • Experience in stormwater management design or the desire to learn this skill.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate (virtually and in-person) with client and colleagues, both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and time management skills, with high level of attention to detail and self-motivated to be successful.
  • Ability to identify and establish work priorities while balancing multiple projects.

Beneficial Competencies

  • Supplemental design experience in related fields such as stormwater, roadway, or sanitary and water main design is beneficial.
  • Experience with construction oversight activities.
  • Previous experience on land development and locally let municipal design procedures, WisDOA DFD and Wisconsin DNR standards, and WisDOT FDM policies and procedure knowledge.
