USH 12 Baraboo Bypass - Project Update

USH 12 Baraboo Bypass
  • In 2005, KL Engineering began designing the USH 12 Baraboo Bypass in Sauk County, Wisconsin. This $54 million project entered into the final stage of construction this past fall. The project constructs a 4-lane divided highway that bypasses the City of Baraboo and the Village of West Baraboo, including the two interchanges at WIS 136 and CTH W. Grading for the new roadway and construction of 13 bridges was completed in two phases. The bridges include architectural features depicting local cultural resources, such as the Devil's Door rock formation at Devil's Lake, the Village of West Baraboo's oak tree icon, and the Baraboo Circus World Museum. Two of the bridges are now the tallest in Wisconsin, with a 160' drop to the Baraboo River. Phase three is scheduled for completion in fall of 2017,  constructing the last section from Point of Rocks to 3/4 miles south of Ski Hi Road. This 6.1-mile project improves safety and access, eliminates dangerous curves, and decreases travel time between Madison and the Dells.
