Transportation Design: Interchanges

USH 151, Lafayette County

KL Engineering completed the design of the expansion of USH 151 around the Village of Belmont in Lafayette County. The project expanded 2.5 miles of USH 151 from a two-lane rural roadway to a four-lane freeway. This segment of USH 151 was constructed on new alignment to bypass the Village of Belmont and included a full diamond interchange on the north side of Belmont at STH 126/CTH G.

The design also included 3 miles of side road realignments, drainage analysis, rock excavation, concrete pavement, 4 right-of-way plats (for the entire 18 mile corridor from Belmont to Dodgeville), and the multi-use Pecatonica Trail. This project was part of the expansion of USH 151 from Dickeyville to Dodgeville. Because the entire corridor project included segments being designed by KL Engineering, WisDOT Southwest Region (Madison Office), and other consultants, close coordination was required in order to share information and keep the project on schedule. Construction of this $9 million dollar project was completed in 2003.

For its design of the USH 151 project, KL Engineering and its consultant partners were the 2004 WisDOT Excellence in Highway Design Award Winners for Best Rural Design.
