Transportation Design: Urban Rehabilitation

Center Avenue, Janesville

KL Engineering was the prime consultant in a three party contract with WisDOT and the City of Janesville for the design of improvements to Center Avenue on the City’s south side.

The project included reconstruction of 0.4 miles of a four-lane undivided rural roadway to a four-lane divided urban roadway section and resurfacing 1.1 miles of the existing four-lane with two-way left turn lane section. The interconnection of the signals on USH 14, including the IH 39/90 ramps, was also included in the project. Three Public Information Meetings were held to address concerns of area businesses. KL Engineering and the City of Janesville worked with the businesses to develop an acceptable design.

KL Engineering completed all aspects of the project including plan development, drainage and storm sewer design, environmental documentation, public involvement, traffic signal design and interconnection, and PS&E submittal. Close coordination with the City of Janesville and WisDOT allowed last minute revisions to be completed quickly and deliver the plans on schedule. This $1.7 million project was constructed in 2005
